Call My Name Story Cards
Working as a Creative Media Research Assistant for Dr. Rhondda Thomas’s "Call My Name" project, my role focuses on translating historical findings into tangible design artifacts. This specific project involved the conception and execution of a series of Story Cards to document and share the histories of African American individuals whose lives and labor were foundational to Clemson University, but whose narratives have been overlooked. I designed a collection of 49 individual cards—representing seven influential individuals across seven distinct historical generations—to provide a comprehensive and structured view of this challenging history.
Each of the seven generations is assigned a unique, deliberate color, establishing a framework for viewers to navigate the chronological evolution of the African American experience at Clemson. Every card features a unique motif that functions as a visual summary of the individual’s spirit, perseverance, or specific character trait identified through archival research. To assert the humanity and historical presence of these individuals, several cards integrate hand-traced signatures pulled from historical deeds or contracts.
